Pendent Light Design

---

In this unit students design a pendant light fixture that can be used in the seating area. 
Criteria:​

• Should be no larger than 20”x20”.
• Must have wire across the center for hanging of the fixture and bulb. 

Standards: 

• STEM-EC5 - Explain a whole systems approach to the engineering design process to solve a technical problem. 
• STEM-EC7 - Summarize and apply engineering solutions through the audience appropriate application of engineering graphics and technical writing. 
• STEM-EC8 - Apply basic engineering tools and resources to aid in data collection and problem solution sets. ​

Learning Targets:

• Demonstrate the steps of the engineering design process.
• Successfully design and construct a prototype of a pendant light

Document all of the steps of the Design Process in your class notebook and on a google slide.  

Step 1: Define the Problem
Step 2: Research - describe at least 5 different designs of light fixtures.
Step 3: Develop Possible Solutions - do concept sketches of at least 3 possible solutions and designs.  Write descriptions.  
Step 4: Choose the best solution - pugh chart
Step 5: Develop your prototype
Step 6: Test - document and failures or changes you have to make throughout the process. 
Step 7: Communicate - Class presentation
Step 8: Redesign - what would you redesign?
