Problem Statement: Working through the engineering design process you are challenge to design piece of playground equipment for kids in elementary school.
Constraints:
Must include 6 play elements (ex. Swing, slide, climbing wall, ladder, play wall, etc.)
Must be ONE solid structure – you should be able to pick it up and move it as one piece. Ropes joining it together do not count as a solid structure.
Must be safe!
Standards:
STEM-FET-6: Apply fundamental principles of the engineering design process.
STEM-FET-8: Students design a solution to an engineering problem applying math and science principles
Target Outcomes:
How do engineers come up with ideas?
Apply the steps of the engineering design process.
Successfully design and construct a prototype.
Learning Targets:
Demonstrate the steps of the engineering design process.
Successfully utilize engineering design software to create a candy machine.
